“For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.” Ephesians 6:12
I don’t know about you, but it seems like the second my feet hit the floor, I am under attack. From every direction, the arrows come. Some come from the words and actions of others directed toward me, but most of my daily battles are fought against the thoughts and feelings swirling around in my mind. Doubt, confusion, fear, insecurity, worthlessness, and many more try to consume me. I would love to tell you that I always instantly recognize these fiery darts and quench them with the shield of faith and the Word of Truth. But while I am getting a little bit better each day, seeing through the clouds of lies can be a struggle. This is why daily Bible study, prayer, and worship is so important. This is where our relationship with God is established.
We read His Word, and meditate upon the promises. We can see where He delivered the children of Israel from their foes, and know that if He did for them, He’ll do it for us. We spend time in prayer, declaring the truths that we found in His Word, and draw closer to Him. Worship is an integral part of my prayer and Bible study. I can have it playing in the background and it helps me focus on Him. When I’m feeling overwhelmed by life, I can turn on a worship CD or my favorite YouTube worship channel, and it will help me get back to the right mindset. As Christians, we are not fighting a physical battle, even when the attacks are coming from other people. It is the spirit of darkness manipulating situations and people to bring us down. And just like in the days of the Old Testament, God will use the power of praise and worship to bring confusion into the enemy’s camp.
